Salvage therapy

For men with a recurrence of prostate cancer following radiotherapy treatment the options appear initially to be rather limited. To continue with monitoring with the knowledge that the cancer is progressing or to go onto medication with side effects which will only have a temporary effect. The opportunity for cure remains however for a significant proportion. Whilst radical prostatectomy carries with it quite major risks prostate HIFU is an attractive alternative. HIFU can successfully destroy cancerous areas of the prostate previously resistant to radiotherapy.
